Village News Update by Jenny Lockwood

Despite it being over two months since Pyrton Fete, I must begin this article with a huge thanks to all those villagers and friends, who helped to make this year’s fete such a tremendous success. New attractions, such as, the display of vintage cars and the balloon man added to the enjoyment of adults and children alike. The special raffle for cinema tickets raised over £1000, contributing to the record takings. We were blessed with warm and sunny weather so that families were happy to sit around to enjoy the music from the Watlington Band, the refreshments and the wonderful views. Thank you to the Anders family who kindly provided us with the venue. The date for next year’s fete is May 14th 2016. Put in on the calendar now!!

Although the summer months are much quieter, the Village Hall continues to run its Pub Nights on the second Friday of each month. The July event is always a BBQ at the home of Kath and Tom Gomm and attracts people from outside Pyrton. The popularity of this evening continues and provides a wonderful opportunity for everyone to socialise in beautiful surroundings and enjoy good food for just £5.

Due to the August date being in the middle of the holidays, there is will be NO Pub Night on 9th August but , instead,  a Family afternoon will take place on SUNDAY August 23rd on Jonny’s field – Rounders from 2pm and BBQ from 4pm. Food provided but please bring your own drinks.

The next Friday pub Night is on September 11 with Harvest Supper on October 10th.

After a slight delay, the Defibrillator has been installed at the back of the Village Hall near the kitchen door. A date for training on how to operate it is being planned. Please try to come – the more people confident in how to use it, the more likely it will be used successfully in an emergency.

During July we were sorry to have to say ‘Goodbye’ to Lydia Baldwin (known to most of us as Lydia Little) who has moved to live with her husband on the other side of Oxford. We wish her every happiness and hope to see her back in Pyrton from time to time. We also would like to offer a warm welcome to those who have recently moved in to the village. Please come along to some of the village events so we can get to know you.
